Beginner's Guide: Complete Your First Connection

Follow the main sequence: create an account, place an order, retrieve the subscription, import it into a client, and verify the connection. Handle only the current task at each step; read the technical reference later for protocol choices and route fundamentals.

  • 120+ countries
  • 210+ routes
  • No email address required
  • Unlimited devices
BEFORE STARTING

Before you start, confirm the order of operations

Your account, order, and subscription link follow a clear sequence. Let the order take effect first, copy the current subscription from the account panel, and then let the client read it. This helps prevent an empty route list or an outdated subscription status after import.

Client interfaces may differ Button labels, menu locations, and permission prompts can vary across Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. “Add subscription,” “Import from URL,” and “Remote configuration” usually refer to the same type of entry point. If the interface does not exactly match this guide, look for an option related to subscriptions, URLs, or remote configuration.
ACCOUNT

Create an account and save your login details

Open the 40VPN account creation page, choose a username for signing in, enter a password, and confirm. No email address is required. Your username and password will be the credentials for accessing the account panel, viewing orders, and retrieving your subscription. Use a username reserved for this service and save the password in a trusted password manager so you do not get locked out because of a mistyped character.

After submitting the form, if the page opens the account panel automatically, confirm that the username shown in the header or account area is the one you just created. If you remain on the sign-in page, use the same username and password to log in. You do not need to install a client or look for a subscription link yet, because a new account may not have usable subscription content until a plan takes effect. The correct next step is to open the plans area and choose an option based on your actual data needs.

If the form says the username already exists, return to the field and choose a unique name. If the password confirmation does not match, enter both passwords again and check your input method, capitalization, and leading or trailing spaces. If sign-in problems continue, do not create multiple accounts; visit FAQs for account and login troubleshooting.

Step complete when You can enter the account panel with your username and password.
First Month Free
PLAN

Choose a plan and confirm the order status

In the plans area, first distinguish between monthly subscriptions and data packages. A monthly subscription resets its data each month on the activation date. Available options are ¥9.9/month with 60GB, ¥18/month with 250GB, and ¥28/month with 500GB. Data packages remain available until used and never expire; available options are ¥158/300GB, ¥358/1000GB, and ¥658/3000GB. Choose a monthly subscription for consistent, short-term monthly use. Choose a data package if your usage is irregular and you want the data to remain available long term.

After selecting an option, the order page shows the plan name, data allowance, and amount due. Confirm that these details match your selection, then choose an available payment method from Alipay, WeChat, or USDT. After payment, return to the account panel and check the order. Do not treat the payment page closing as proof that the order is active; continue only after the plan and active status have updated in the panel.

When upgrading a monthly subscription mid-cycle, the price difference is converted into remaining days. If you are trying the service for the first time, choose a tier based on your recent actual usage rather than paying for excess data in advance. All plans support unlimited devices and include a 60-day no-questions-asked refund. Devices can import the subscription under the same account, but the subscription link should be stored only in an environment controlled by the account holder.

SUBSCRIPTION

Get your subscription link in the account panel

After the order takes effect, open the account overview and find the subscription section. The page will usually offer options to copy the subscription, import it into a client, or view connection details. After copying, the link is placed on your system clipboard. Open the client for the target platform directly and import it; do not paste the link into a chat window, public document, or browser search box.

The subscription link lets a client read the route list and update information associated with your account, so treat it like an account credential. This guide does not display a real address. To recognize the format, you can use the clearly fake value https://example.com/sub?token=YOUR_TOKEN as a structural example. It cannot connect and must not be replaced with an address from an unknown source. For actual use, copy only the content currently provided in the account panel.

If no subscription option appears in the account overview, refresh the panel and check the order status again. If you have just paid but the status has not updated, keep the order record and check the panel again later. Do not construct a link yourself or import the example address into a client. If the subscription was accidentally exposed, look for a reset option in the account panel or submit a support ticket. Then delete the old configuration from the client and import the new one.

Step complete when The subscription link has been copied from the account overview to a controlled device.

CLIENT IMPORT

Complete the client import for your platform

The client reads the subscription, displays routes, and establishes the system network connection. Get the client for your platform from the 40VPN account panel's download area. The marketing page does not provide static installation packages or publicly expose subscription links. After installation, open the client, find subscription management, and paste the link copied in the previous step. A successful import adds selectable routes or configuration groups to the interface.

Windows

Open the client download area in the account panel, get the Windows client, and install it. On first launch, look in the sidebar or top menu for “Subscription,” “Configuration,” or “Import from URL.” Paste the subscription link into the address field, save it, and run an update. When the route list appears, choose a route and enable the system proxy or connection switch as prompted. If the system displays a network access permission prompt, confirm that it comes from the client you just installed before allowing it to establish a connection.

macOS

Get the macOS client from the account panel, place the app in a system-approved location, and launch it. macOS may ask you to approve a network extension or network configuration permission; this is a system step required for the client to manage the connection. Open subscription management, choose Add from URL or Remote configuration, paste the link, and update it. Return to the main interface, choose a route, and start the connection. If a permission request was previously denied, review it again in the system settings related to network and privacy.

Android

Open the Android client download area through the account panel, install and launch the client, then choose Add configuration, Import subscription, or Read from clipboard. Paste the link, give the configuration a recognizable name, and run an update. When starting the connection for the first time, Android displays a network connection authorization prompt. Confirm it so the client can establish an encrypted tunnel. If the route list appears but the connection will not start, check that the system has granted connection permission, then return to the client and try again.

iOS

Open the relevant iOS download area from the account panel, then look in the client for Subscription, Remote file, or URL import. Paste and save the link, and wait for the route list to finish updating. The first connection triggers a system VPN configuration authorization prompt; confirm it in the system interface, then return to the client and choose a route. If the import entry is in an Add menu on the configuration page, look first for options marked with a plus sign, subscription, or remote configuration. Do not enter the link in a regular search field.

The interface does not need to look identical across platforms, but two results should be present: the subscription name is saved and the route list displays normally. If the client says it cannot recognize the format, confirm that you copied the complete subscription link from the account overview and that it has no extra spaces at either end. Delete the failed entry, copy the link again, and re-import it. For deeper questions about protocol compatibility, system network extensions, and route topology, read Protocol and Route Technical Reference.

Step complete when The client displays the route list loaded from the subscription.

VERIFY

Connect to a route and verify the outbound connection

Return to the client's main interface, choose a target region from the loaded routes, and start the connection. Wait for the status to change from Connecting to Connected, then open a new browser page for verification. During your first session, there is no need to switch through multiple routes. Confirm that one route connects successfully first, then adjust based on the destination region, application, and your actual experience.

Open 40VPN's IP lookup page and check whether the current outbound information differs from before the connection. If the client shows Connected and the outbound information has changed, system traffic is passing through the selected route. Then open the website or app you need and complete a normal page load. If the browser still shows the previous result, close the old page and open it again to avoid cached content affecting the check.

If the client remains on Connecting, try another route and check whether the subscription updates normally. If the client is connected but the target service does not respond as expected, disconnect and reconnect, then confirm that the selected region meets the target service's regional requirements. If the problem persists, note the platform, client message, selected route, and stage where the issue occurs, then use FAQs to troubleshoot by connection and issue type.

Step complete when The client shows Connected and the IP lookup confirms that the outbound information has changed.

What to do after your first connection

After completing your first connection, everyday use only requires keeping the subscription up to date, choosing a suitable route, and starting the client. Monthly subscription data resets each month on the activation date, while a data package remains available until it is used. When changing devices, get the client for the new platform from the account panel and import the current subscription from the account overview. Unlimited devices does not mean the subscription link can be shared publicly; it should still be protected by the account holder.

To understand the design trade-offs among Shadowsocks, VMess, Trojan, VLESS, Hysteria2, and TUIC, or to compare direct, relay, and dedicated-line topologies, continue with Protocol and Route Technical Reference. For subscription updates, system permissions, connection failures, speed fluctuations, or refund procedures, visit FAQs and browse by category. This beginner's guide keeps only the shortest operating path and does not repeat the technical parameters here.

If you have not chosen a plan yet, visit the plans page to compare monthly subscriptions and data packages. To check available regions, open the route list and browse by country, city, and route type. Base your choice on the region you actually need to access rather than judging quality from a route name alone.
